Soundscape - The Transition of Werribee

When my family first moved to Werribee in 1964 it was a quiet semi-rural town. The community was full of families, local businesses, farms and native birds. It has been described as a typical country town. However, traces of the original township are vanishing due to the suburban homogenisation of urban living. This soundscape focuses on the transition from a small community and farm based town, to what was classed as ‘traditional suburb’ with key features such as pets and a ‘footy’ based town, up to the beginning of Werribee’s curation as a highly populated ‘smart city’. To ensure the soundscape presents an accurate depiction of the development, I interviewed multiple long term residents who provided me with stories and their knowledge from early 1960’s to present. Thus ensured all aspects of the sound used relate back to recognisable features of Werribee’s ever-changing makeup. A large amount of the sound used was recorded by myself using a sound recorder along the small farms remaining, in high traffic areas and along the river/football ground. Thus ensures majority of the sound comes directly from the subject matter. The other sound gathered and the main ambience background was collected from non-copyright sources, which are credited below:
